( 1 ) Entrance:
Visitors enter the wide hallway and view a grand curved staircase. The stairs
follow a carpenter's rule of construction where the risers are shallow and the
steps are broad thus allowing comfortable climbs and graceful descents.
Under the stairs, a set of curved doors have been incorporated into the
paneling. The doors were steamed and bent to perfectly fit their location. When
closed, the doors conceal the hallway to the back of the house. They are a
tribute to the shipbuilders' skillfulness in their craft.
